Celebration of 50 Years of Service This year marks the 50th anniversary of priesthood ordination of Fr. John Tyma. Fr. Tyma has served in different places in Peru and so there have been several celebrations to mark this important milestone. In his local community in Morropon, they celebrated with a mass and dinner in June. Then in August the dioceses of Chulucanas had a mass of thanksgiving during their annual pastoral meeting. At the same time a celebration was held in his present place of pastoral service, the town of Buenos Aires. However, many of the faithful from Fr. John's former parish in Guadalupe, in the archdioceses of Trujillo, wanted to also give thanks for his many years of service in that large parish. So in Sept. the local pastor and parishioners organized a celebration with the presence and participation of a large number of faithful from the town of Guadalupe and from the neighboring towns that formed part of that parish. In the parish that Fr. John administered there are now three parishes, which gives an indication of the large size of the previous parish of Guadalupe. Present also at the mass where two of the friars from the community of Pacasmayo which is near to Guadalupe. We give thanks to the Lord for the many years of service of Fr. John to the Church both in North and South America and pray that he continues to share his ministry with the people of Peru. |
